Plans to transform the external appearance of a significant number of shops on Bracknell’s existing High Street have been submitted for planning permission.
The work, if approved, would bring a refreshed appearance to the High Street including recladding of parts of the surrounding framework to the shops, improved lighting and signage on High Street West, and the removal of the canopy to a number of the shops and external improvements on High Street East.
The works would be in addition to the public realm works that will be carried out to the High Street over the next 12 months which have already been approved. Harry Pickering, Asset Manager at Schroders on behalf of Bracknell Regeneration Partnership, said: “If approved, these improvements will completely refresh and rejuvenate the High Street, creating a greatly improved customer experience.
“It is vital that existing buildings receive a refresh so that they complement the new buildings in the Town Centre ready for opening in spring 2017.” Cllr Marc Brunel-Walker, executive member for economic development and regeneration, said: “The transformation of Bracknell town centre is about more than just building shops; it’s about creating a welcoming social and cultural heart for our residents, visitors and businesses. The work to rejuvenate the High Street, if approved, would be another step towards achieving that and making Bracknell one of the most desirable town centres in the Thames Valley.”
